Will your water last the summer, and what do leaks cost?
Drought restrictions, dry rivers, groundwater, river flows, abstractions, climate projections, networks and sanitation: Territoire reads the public water data for your area and draws three conclusions an elected official can present to the council. The tool is in French and covers France only.
The problem
Water figures exist, but they are scattered
Restriction orders every summer, rivers observed dry, networks losing part of the water they produce: water has become a council matter. The data is public, but split between a dozen producers, each with its own format and pitfalls. Bringing it together takes days a small team does not have.
What you read
Three plain conclusions
Will the water last the summer?
Today's restrictions and days under restriction since January, dry rivers, groundwater and flows compared with the same date over the last ten years, where tap water comes from, and what climate models project for summer flow.
What leaks cost
Cubic metres lost each year, service by service, and their value in euros, against the pace of network renewal. A low efficiency raises the question of a leak action plan.
Individual sanitation
The share of compliant systems and of residents concerned, set against river quality as a clue to check, not as proof.
Next
Each conclusion leads to an action
Securing summer water (a second resource, leaks first where they lose the most water), putting the cost of leaks into the water budget, starting a programme to upgrade individual sanitation: each action joins your priorities and action plan, with its calculation rule printed and a funding lead marked “to be checked”.
The other half
What is going well is said too
An elected official must be able to reassure, with figures. When it is true and has been read, Territoire says so: water lasted the summer, or tap water stays well below the limits for PFAS, vinyl chloride and chlorothalonil. A source that did not answer is never shown as good news: it is named, and the conclusion waits.
Method
Data pitfalls, handled for you
- water passed through hydroelectric plants is removed from abstractions: otherwise a municipality crossed by a penstock looks parched;
- an intake declared under several meters is counted once;
- losses are valued at the water price published by the service: an upper bound, since the production cost is not published;
- climate projections are given as the median of the models and their range, never a single figure.

Where to find it in Territoire
The “L'eau” (water) theme appears on the assessment home screen as soon as its data has been read. Measuring stations are added to the map and water has its own part in the PDF report. To then follow a water contract, action by action and grant by grant: Contracts and programmes.
